1,000-Year-Old Mummy Unearthed in Lima

Construction workers made a gruesome discovery during a construction site in Peru. The workers were expanding a gas pipeline network in the Puente Piedra district of Lima when they came across tombs at the construction site.

Several hidden tombs have been found at a construction site in Lima, Peru. The workers were installing gas pipelines and immediately notified authorities when they found the find. Experts who arrived at the site opened the two chambers, one of which was empty, but in the other they found something eerie: a mummy lying in a strange position, wrapped in rags.

Experts believe the deceased may have belonged to a civilization that predates the Inca Empire. The find is linked to the Chancay culture, which lived in the area of present-day Lima about 1,000 to 1,200 years ago.

This assumption is also confirmed by the pottery and other objects found in the tomb.

“We are probably working on an entire cemetery, since we found another tomb not far from here,” said archaeologist José Aliaga, who believes that his team may find more tombs during the excavation.
