László Krasznahorkai received the Nobel Prize in Literature

On October 9th, 2025, in the early afternoon, the Swedish Royal Academy announced that the Nobel Prize in Literature in this year has been awarded to the Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai.
In their explanation, they highlighted the significance of Krasznahorkai’s visionary body of work, which manages to reveal the power of art even amidst apocalyptic terror. In their praise, they connected him to the tradition of Central European prose literature that builds on absurdity and grotesque exaggeration—from Franz Kafka to Thomas Bernhard—while also noting that his Chinese and Japanese travels influenced his work and inspired several of his writings.
We congratulate László Krasznahorkai for receiving the world’s most prestigious literary honor!
